This is Sogetsu Ikebana – Welcome!

Ikebana is the exquisite art of Japanese Flower Arrangement. Distinctly unique in style and different from the floral art of Western countries, the beauty of Ikebana enthrals and delights people of all ages in every corner of the globe.

Sogetsu Ikebana Queensland Inc. is a Branch of Sogetsu Teachers’ Association in Japan. Our teaching curriculum is set at Sogetsu School Headquarters in Japan, which also issues achievement certificates and diplomas to our students.

Sogetsu Ikebana has been practised in Brisbane since 1963 and its members have a strong commitment to interacting with the Brisbane community. Members have been involved in many different ways both individually and through group work, for example, in creating arrangements, installations, demonstrations and teaching.

The highlight for each year is the Annual Exhibition in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-tha Auditorium which has become a very popular event. This exhibition promotes innovative and skilful Sogetsu Ikebana.

Other community involvement includes:

  • Queensland Art Gallery – continuing with weekly arrangements since 1993
  • Installation at the EKKA – Royal Society Queensland Show
  • Introducing Ikebana to young school children
  • Various floral groups – Camellia Society and the Floral Art Society
